MEET THE FLORIDA SPINY LOBSTER
They may be called lobster, but Florida spiny lobster are a little different from the cold-water lobsters you might picture.
There are no giant claws here. Instead, these warm-water crustaceans are known for their long antennae, armored bodies, and—you guessed it—plenty of spines.
During the day, spiny lobster usually tuck themselves into rocky ledges, holes, and other protected areas. After dark, they become much more active and begin moving into the shallows to feed.

And that's when the chase begins. Spotting one walking across the bottom under the glow of the lights is exciting. Getting the net over it before it disappears? That's the fun part.
WHAT IS BULLY NETTING?
Bully netting is a traditional nighttime method of catching Florida spiny lobster—and one of the coolest ways to experience lobster season in the Florida Keys.

Instead of diving for lobster, you stay on the boat.
We slowly work shallow areas after dark while powerful lights illuminate the bottom. When someone spots a legal-size lobster, we position the boat, lower a long-handled bully net over it, and scoop it up.
Bully netting turns lobstering into a hunt: spotting movement, getting into position, making the perfect scoop, and seeing what's actually roaming the Florida Keys flats after sunset.
FLORIDA LOBSTER SEASON
Florida’s regular recreational spiny lobster season runs from August 6 through March 31.
All harvested lobster must meet current Florida size, licensing, and bag-limit requirements. Capt. Taylor will help make sure your group follows the applicable regulations throughout the trip.

Do we have to get in the water?
No. Bully netting is done entirely from the boat.
Is this good for beginners?
Absolutely. No previous lobstering experience is necessary. Capt. Taylor will explain how to use the net, spot the lobster, and ensure you have a great time!

Yes. It’s a fun, hands-on option for families and groups looking for something different to do at night in Islamorada.
How long is the trip?
Trips run approximately four hours or until your limit is caught.
